“CLF opened up an exciting new world for me. When I graduated in food chemistry, I wanted to work in the food industry. The great thing about my job is the diversity of tasks, each task opening new opportunities to work with different people.”

As a member of the HPLC team, Melanie is closely involved in nutrient analyses. “As well as routine analysis, I’m involved in developing and validating new methods; we’re continually working on new ways to carry out analyses faster, easier and more cost-efficient”, Melanie explains. For example, Melanie has been instrumental in streamlining sample preparation for vitamin A analysis.

Yet another dimension of her job is the chance to lead a special project. “These are tremendous opportunities to explore new avenues and to develop professional skills”, she explains. “For instance, I have just completed a special project on standardising work place procedures.” But for Melanie one of the most exciting challenges is the training of laboratory staff responsible for production control. She’s recently been to China and Poland to give courses on improving routine analyses and validating new methods.

Meanwhile, Melanie was promoted to teamleader of the LC-MS/MS team. In this position she is responsible for a group of lab scientists and our analyses in the field of liquid chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry.
