Residues & Contaminants

Detecting very low concentrations

A vital aspect of food quality and safety monitoring is the early and rapid identification and quantification of remaining traces of pesticides (residues) and traces of toxic substances (contaminants) in food raw materials and food products. Residues and contaminants can infiltrate at any stage during production. Detection and quantification of harmful and toxic substances is particularly important in food produced for vulnerable groups such as infants and people requiring clinical nutrition.

EU and international guidelines for these vulnerable groups are much stricter than for food products for the general population. The permissible limits are as low as 0.01 milligram/kg. CLF specialises in trace element analyses of residues and contaminants as required under EU legislation.
